Representing meat, poultry, and egg product clients regulated by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has been a core focus of OFW’s practice since the firm’s inception. OFW’s attorneys understand the challenges packers and processors face in providing a wholesome and quality product to customers through a complex supply chain under demanding timelines and pursuant to daily inspection by FSIS. OFW’s attorneys stay current with regulatory and policy developments implemented pursuant to the Federal Meat Inspection Act, Poultry Products Inspection Act, Egg Products Inspection Act, and Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act. We also maintain regular contact with key FSIS personnel at headquarters and the district level. Some of the FSIS-related matters we assist clients with include:

  • Inspection matters, including appealing noncompliance records (NRs)
  • FSIS investigations and enforcement actions, such as Notices of Suspensions, Notices of Intended Enforcement actions and Notices of Alleged Violations
  • Recalls
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs, Sanitary Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and other food safety programs
  • Labeling issues and FSIS label pre-approval
  • New ingredient or technology submissions
  • Humane slaughter issues
  • Export/Import issues
