In Memoriam: Robert A. Hahn

Robert A. Hahn (Dec. 12, 1958 – April 20, 2016)

Our dear colleague, partner and friend, Robert A. (Bob) Hahn passed away on April 20, 2016, at the age of 57.  Bob’s incredible intellect and exceptionally kind heart made him OFW Law’s gentle giant.  His quiet tenacity garnered him great respect from clients and colleagues within the food and nutrition community.  He contributed greatly to public health.

Bob joined OFW Law as an associate on November 30, 1998, specializing in FDA regulation of food and dietary supplements. Bob spoke and wrote extensively on food law topics, including food labeling and food safety.  He became a principal of the firm in 2005, and a shareholder in 2015.

Before joining OFW Law, Bob served as Director of Legal Affairs at the consumer advocacy group Public Voice for Food and Health Policy (now merged with the Consumer Federation of America). Prior to that, he worked with a U.S. law firm in Guangzhou, China, and as Vice President & Counsel at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in New York. He was proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Bob was born in New Hyde Park, New York, and graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Brown University in 1980. He earned his J.D. from Columbia University Law School in 1984 and a masters degree in public health and law from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1994.

Though we are deeply saddened by this loss, we know that Bob’s spirit will continue to live on through all of us.  We will rejoice in Bob’s life and his many contributions.
