About
With over 25 years of labeling experience with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Jeff is a recognized expert on meat, poultry, and egg product labeling requirements. Jeff has worked extensively on issues related to food allergens, jurisdiction, nutrition labeling, date labeling, animal production raising claims, and third-party certification claims. He has an extensive knowledge of the agency’s prior label approval system, including generic label approval, and the labeling appeal process.
Leadership & Community
Jeff is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is frequently requested by industry and trade organizations to speak on a variety of labeling and compliance issues. Prior to his career at USDA, Jeff was an Officer and Dietitian in the U.S. Army Medical Specialist Corps where he was responsible for managing the procurement of all food and supplies and overseeing daily food production activities at one of the Army’s largest medical centers.

Past Experience
- Jeff is the former Deputy Director of the Labeling and Program Delivery Staff, responsible for the development and implementation of regulations and policies for food labeling requirements, food standards of identity, and the use of ingredients.
- Jeff is also the former Alternate Delegate for the Codex Committee on Food Labeling, where he developed international standards and guidelines.
