John G. Dillard, a principal at OFW. will be presenting a review of several federal agencies’ responses to the COVID-19 crisis that affect food producers and manufacturers. The webinar, “COVID-19: Regulatory Changes Impacting Food Production and Distribution” will be offered by the National Agricultural Law Center on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 12pm EST.
John will be reviewing changes in USDA and FDA inspections, the enforcement of regulations related to transporting food, and worker safety. He will also examine current guidance from USDA, FDA, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on promoting a safe food supply and a healthy workforce.
Food and agriculture are considered critical infrastructures and constitute, “an estimated 2.1 million farms, 935,000 restaurants, and more than 200,000 registered food manufacturing, processing, and storage facilities,” according to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, government agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), have been forced to adapt to new standards and guidelines to support these vital industries.
