OFW Law is proud to announce that Jeff Canavan, Senior Regulatory Advisor, has been recognized with the “Above and Beyond Award” at Prime Label Consultants’ 38th Annual Food Label Conference. In presenting the honor, Prime Label Consultants recognized Jeff for a “career defined not only by service, but by kindness, generosity, and impact.”

Jeff’s connection to the Prime Label conference spans more than two decades. For approximately 20 years, he has been a speaker at the Annual Food Label Conference, contributing his expertise and insight to one of the industry’s premier gatherings of professionals focused on regulatory compliance, labeling policy, and best practices. His long-standing involvement reflects both his deep commitment to the field and his willingness to share knowledge with colleagues across the industry.

Prior to joining OFW Law, Jeff gained 25 years of labeling experience with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). He retired in early 2026 as Deputy Director of the FSIS Labeling and Program Delivery Staff. Jeff is a recognized expert on meat, poultry, and egg product labeling requirements. Jeff has worked extensively on issues related to food allergens, jurisdiction, nutrition labeling, date labeling, animal production raising claims, and third-party certification claims. He has an extensive knowledge of the agency’s prior label approval system, including generic label approval, and the labeling appeal process.

Jeff continues to apply his expertise to the service of OFW Law’s clients. He assists clients on matters from consulting on labeling and jurisdictional matters, generic label reviews, routine label submissions, label appeals, and the development of labeling claims strategies.
