We are saddened to share the news that Phil Olsson passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 11th.

His life took him from the cranberry bogs of Massachusetts, to Harvard University, to distinguished service in the federal government, and finally into private practice in Washington, DC.  Alongside Richard Frank, he co-founded OFW Law in 1979.

Phil was the longtime face of the firm, counseling several trade association clients.  He advocated for America’s farmers and food producers at the highest level.  He instilled a culture of pride in good client service and provided innovative solutions to difficult problems. More than 45 years later, OFW still provides legal and policy counsel to many of Phil’s initial clients.

Alongside Rick and other early partners, Phil’s love for his wife, Diane, and his four children resulted in a family-oriented culture at OFW.  Many firm outings provided opportunities for colleagues, along with their families, to engage with each other in relaxed and enjoyable activities.  Today, OFW provides a professional home to more than 45 employees.

Phil leaves a legacy of a family-oriented law firm that is widely known for providing innovative solutions and staunch advocacy for the firm’s clients.  His talents were used for good and he will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched.  We are grateful for Phil’s vision and contributions to OFW, and for his friendship.
